Whangarei Tattoo Artist

Coni is an experienced tattoo artist based close to Whangarei on the Tutukaka Coast

Coni's studio is a calm and serene place surrounded by nature. It's a beautiful place to experience a tattoo session.

The studio is a smokefree space and kept very clean.

Before starting your tattoo Coni will walk you through the procedure, talk about aftercare and take some personal details, including some medical details.

Consultations can be done over the phone but are often done in person, especially if it's a first time tattoo.

  • Does it hurt?
Your skin will be repeatedly punctured during the procedure and so you will experience some pain. The level of pain will depend on other factors: Your pain threshold Where you have the tattoo How good your tattooist is Your tattooist may use local anaesthetic to numb the area - if you are too sensitive in the tattooed area. Please make sure that you request the numbing option way before your appointment to make sure it can be applied in timely manner.
  • I just want something small, whats your minimum charge?
The minimum charge is $100, this ensures you receive quality pigments and equipment and a sterile setup in the most hygienic environment and of course a tattoo from the most experienced tattoo artist in NZ.
  • I'm keen for something bigger, how much?
There are many variables on pricing a tattoo. Size, position, colours, detail just to name a few. Use the form contact or email me to coninightingale@outlook.com to get an estimate or book for a consult to meet at the studio and we can discuss in person and give you a quote.
  • How much is your hourly charge?
I charge $170 per hour. Full day session of 7 hours is $1000 after that any extra hour is charged $100 per hour. It’s worth noting at this point that the hourly rate should be amongst the last of your questions, not your first. Having a budget in mind is fine but you will find the best artists all have similar rates, and it is the less experienced artists who offer cheap deals. Not only do you receive an inferior tattoo but it usually takes longer, and winds up being more expensive in the long-run. Of course get the tattoo you can afford but choose the artist on their skills and experience. Tattoos are forever, wear the best.
  • Do I have to pay a deposit or fee for the drawing and booking?
Yes, I ask a fee of $50- $200 for the drawing depending on the size, this secures your appointment/s too. This is non-refundable but can be held if you need to move your appointment/s.
  • When I could see the design?
Artist have to do designs every day so they are done in order of bookings, without an appointment and deposit, the artist is essentially working hours absolutely free and no one is willing to do that. The design will be sent usually 2 days before the appointment, or maybe within more time if it’s possible. A good design takes time, it requires hours of thinking and research to design the best composition and fit for the placement on the body.
  • Can I bring all my friends to watch?
For the basic reason that for an artist working and trying to concentrate around a whole lot of people chatting - it's not the best scenario. We find it distracting and in fact, so will YOU. If you need a support person you can bring ONE friend but you will find it easier to concentrate if you are on your own. Don’t worry, you won’t be lonely and we can have a good chat .
  • I need to change my appointment, how do I do this?
That’s ok but please don’t make appointments that you are unsure of keeping. Cancellations within 48 hours of your appointment will result in the loss of your deposit, And if you postpone your appointment more than twice you will also forfeit your deposit. We get that life is really busy and sometimes unpredictable but please understand this is not a hobby but how we make our living, a couple of last minute cancellations can have a major impact on a working week. We are going to do the absolute best for you, so please do your best too, thanks.
  • What should I do before my tattoo?
Just be fresh, well rested and well fed. Don’t drink much alcohol the night before. You will find it easier to relax the more energy you have. Which makes it a better experience for you and the artist.
  • What should I bring with me for a full day session?
Bring some lunch or snacks, water or any soft drink, you want to have energy and keep hydrated. If you want to feel more comfortable you can bring your pillow, blanket, books, or headphones if you want to listen your music or podcasts.
  • What about after?
Remove the wrap after a minimum of one hour (longer is fine). When you remove the wrap, wash well with warm soapy water, repeat a few times for the first 24 hours and always pat dry with a clean towel. After 24 hours just shower normally but start applying a minimal amount of our after care cream (just enough, is enough) and only when the tattoo is dry. Repeat twice a day until healed. No swimming or soaking in salty water or pools and keep out of the sun. Don’t pick or scratch your tattoo and keep it clean.
